The Concept
Over the past few months, I have been exploring the
intriguing world of black and white photography. What have I learned? For
starters, not every shot works in black and white, and while some at first glance may seem mediocre, they gain a luminous vibrancy with this effect added.
At the
heart of this style is the concept of contrast – an artistic universe of
gradations to explore. I find that depth plays an important role in capturing
great black and white photographs, and that I tend to use a painterly eye, looking
for shapes of dark and light areas instead of color. Another very important
element to consider is areas of activity versus areas of calm (negative space).
This is a similar process to how I think about abstract paintings and am
constantly surprised at the connections between these art forms. Please enjoy
this artistic photo set below!
