Guest Artist Feature: Jeanna Olson, Photographer + Blogger

Photo by Jeanna Olson © 2016. All Rights Reserved.

I’m a midwestern girl with good intentions and bad knees. I majored in English and theater (unemployable) at the local university and then stuffed my curriculum with journalism classes to keep my parents happy.

So I’ve had a long career in food service.

My dad had cameras and guns and was determined I try both. I didn’t care for guns but liked the low-risk, high-reward of shooting someone with a camera. I remember using Pocket Instamatics and Polaroids and finally my dad’s old Petri. But it wasn’t until I got my hands on a Pentax K-1000 in J-School that things really started to click, pun intended.

I’m the most amateur of photographers but I always have fun trying—the idea behind both my blogs. My blog, The Ched Curtain, refers to the Wisconsin/Illinois state line, a line I no longer wish to cross (over the hill).

The last time I went to Chicago was for my longer running blog, The Wisconsin Candy Dish, when I got to roll through the sugar charged All Candy Expo (a life long dream after I saw it on The Simpsons). I started "The Dish" when I was in tech school, still trying to be a useful member of society, and kept it going to get free candy.

Beginning Painting Supplies (Acrylic)

Hello all and welcome back to Impulsive Artistry! Today, I wanted to share with you all a one-stop art supply list that I created through Amazon as a convenient resource to anyone who is interested in learning to paint! This following list provides you with the essentials materials for a beginning artist. I use many of these same products when I paint with acrylics and have found them to meet my expectations without breaking the bank. While painting may not be the absolute cheapest hobby to pursue, it has offered me many hours of entertainment and joy, making it a creative activity that is well worth the initial investment.

Anyone who wishes to cut cost further, can simply purchase these items from the list to get started (add the additional items once you have painted a few pieces):

Simply Simmons Brush Set of 5
Liquitex BASICS Acrylic Paint, 8 Piece Set
US Art Supply 9x12in Canvas Boards
Loew Cornell Chip Brush Set

(Only about $50 to begin your painting adventure!)

Now that you have the art supplies, here are a few of my Easy Painting Tutorials for Beginners from the Impulsive Artistry YouTube Channel:

Vermont Sunsets – Photo Set

Sunset over Lake Champlain. Photo by Charles Wolf.
Impulsive Artistry © 2016. All Rights Reserved.

In my recent trip to Burlington, Vermont, the natural beauty of that state mesmerized me, but nothing astonished me more than the gorgeous sunsets over Lake Champlain. Due to the stormy weather on the first few days of our vacation, my wife and I were treated with several spectacular cloud-filled skies as the sun set behind the Adirondack Mountains, protruding across the water in New York.

Now on to the photos!
