Feeling Inspired? #13 - Link Up

Are You Feeling Inspired?

Need a creative boost to start your week?

I know I do – join me each Monday for a linkup party where you can share your creative side (posts): Painting, Drawing, Photography, Quilting, Music, DIYs, Crafts…

If it is creative, then share it here — I would love to see what you are working on!

Two Modern Abstracts:

This past week I have been dabbling in some abstract painting, and tried a new approach to create two modern pieces. Both of these works employ the same color palette: Naphthol Red, Naples Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Mars Black and Titanium White. I began with the three primaries, creating a geometric pattern of zigzags. Drying this completely with a hairdryer, I then took my palette knife with some Titanium White and layered it over the bright colors underneath. I added some more Cobalt and Crimson, respectively, on top of the White in places to strength the presence of those colors. Lastly, I cut some lines through the wet, top layer of paint with the tip of knife to add interest and movement.

Let me know in the comments below what you think! :  )

These types of abstracts are relatively easy to create, and would make the perfect decor in your home, especially at a larger scale (18x24in for instance). As a fun alternative, you could use a uniform base color, instead of the three primaries, that matched your home decor to a better degree. Kids of all ages can create this type of painting as well - it makes a great project to try together!

Technical Difficulties Resolved!

I am thrilled to say that I have been able to resolve all the issues that I was having with my laptop last week, and I am back up and running at full-capacity. I will be returning to my twice a week posting schedule: Monday Link Up and Wednesday Creative Post. Here is the link to my last blog post on this topic for more information about what went wrong:

Photography: Snowy Morning

We have had some winter weather here in North Carolina these past few weeks, and I was able to capture a nice little set of photos on a snowy morning about two weeks ago. I do love the look of snow and ice the morning light. What about you? Let me know in the comments below. Enjoy:

Blog Update: Technical Difficulties!

Hello Everyone,

For those of you who regularly read my blog, you might have noticed that I did not get up a blog post yesterday – my “Feeling Inspired Monday Link Up Post.” Over the past few weeks, I have seen a serious decline in my computer’s processing speed, and this weekend it finally stopped working at usable level. This has put a serious damper on my creative efforts; I am unable to edit my painting videos together for the YouTube Channel, post social media updates regularly, write blog posts... you get the idea.

Today, I am borrowing my wife’s computer to get this update to you all, and I spent 6 hours yesterday working with several technicians to identify and correct what was malfunctioning on my machine. I am happy to say that progress was made, but the battery has to be replaced and that will take several more days to complete, because it has to be ordered at the store. I am cautiously optimistic, and I hope to back up a running again next week. I do not think I will be able to get a post up tomorrow, but will be back next Monday with new photo set (computer fixed or no). Thankfully, I have been able to backup all of my creative files from the past four years and am hopeful that this whole ordeal will be resolved by the end of this week.

While I may be creatively hampered this week, I really do hope you all have a fantastic creative week yourselves – technical difficulties free!

Charles

P.S. In the meantime, here are a few popular painting videos from my YouTube Channel that I hope you will enjoy! Have a great week!  :  )

Sunset Meadow, Watercolor Painting + Video Tutorial!

Sunset Meadow Watercolor, 7.5x10in. Artist Charles Wolf.
Impulsive Artistry © 2017. All Rights Reserved.
Hello everyone! Hope your week is going well. It has been over a month since I shared a watercolor painting with you all and this one is lovely little fall scene that I painted from a photograph taken during my trip to visit the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, specifically Asheville, NC, several months ago. You can see two beautiful photo sets that I took while I was there at the following links:

I remember how I took the sunset photo that served as the basis for this painting near the hotel where my wife and I were staying. It was crisp evening and the fall foliage was at peak saturation in the Carolina mountains. Walking up the road to the top of the hill, I came to this field, and was able to capture the sun as it set across from my vantage point, disappearing behind purple peaks. In the photo, I was looking not directly at the sun, but to my left across the to the trees bending away from me in the golden light.

Here are the materials you need to paint this painting yourself:

Artist Quality Watercolor Paint: Lemon Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cobalt Blue, Payne’s Grey, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Alizarin Crimson, Bright Red

Bright Brush

Filbert Brush

Liner Brush

Easel or Flat Surface

Drop Cloth

Watercup

Stay-Wet Palette

Watercolor Paper, 140lbs.

Paper Towels

Photography: Winter Storm

Winter is in full swing here in North Carolina and we were greeted with ice and snow these past few days. Great for photography, but a bit too cold for my taste. It was fun to be snowed-in this past weekend, but I am looking forward to warmer days!
