Making Digital Art

I have a new digital art sketch to share with you all today that I created in Photoshop. The more I continue to explore this powerful program, the more I find that I am so satisfied with it – many exciting possibilities, and I think will be creating more art with it over the next few months. As most of you probably know, I frequently share painting videos here on the blog from my YouTube Art Channel.

Creating videos are always a lot of fun for me, but they do take quite a bit of time for all the editing that I tend to undertake. Creating digital art helps to cut down some of that time, because I am recording/creating everything right on my computer without the hassle of setting up the paint palette, easel, camera, adjusting for lightning, cleaning up any paint messes, you get the idea…

This particular sketch “Fishing Hole” was inspired by my childhood. As I talk about in the video below for this piece, my father and grandfather are both avid fishermen. Growing up they often would take me fishing, waking up before sunrise so that we would be on the lake or river before sunrise. This work seeks to captures the etherealness of the light as the sun just rises, illuminating the misty water. I used a chalk brush and very soft colors (light yellow, green and greys) on a light blue background to capture the effect.

You can watch me create this picture from start to finish in the following video. I talk about each step of the process along the way!
